The In-Country/In-Region Programme Sub-Saharan Africa is a scholarship initiative by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
It aims to strengthen higher education and research institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa by supporting postgraduate students (Master’s and PhD) to study either in their home country or within the region. The programme focuses on fields such as STEM, agriculture, environmental sciences, health, and social sciences, promoting academic excellence and regional collaboration.
By working with African universities and research institutions, the programme helps build local expertise, foster knowledge exchange, and reduce brain drain by encouraging graduates to contribute to their home countries. This initiative plays a crucial role in developing sustainable solutions to regional challenges while enhancing capacity building in higher education and research across Africa.
