The Czech Republic Government Scholarship is a fully funded program offered by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to support students from developing countries who wish to pursue higher education in the Czech Republic. It mainly targets Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree programs, with courses available in both Czech and English (depending on the field of study).

The scholarships are dedicated solely to promoting the studies of foreign nationals from developing and specific third countries. Neither a citizen of the Czech Republic, nor a citizen of the European Union, nor any other foreign national with a permanent residence permit in the territory of the Czech Republic may, therefore, apply for a scholarship. There is no legal claim to the scholarship award.

Granting scholarships to citizens from developing countries for studies at Czech public higher education institutions (referred to as “universities”) is an important part of the foreign development cooperation of the Czech Republic and has a long tradition. From the late 1950s to the present day over 20 000 foreign nationals have completed their studies at Czech universities with a scholarship of the Government of the Czech Republic.

Benefits of the Scholarship

Travel expenses for travelling to the Czech Republic and back to the student’s home country after graduation are paid by the foreign national at his/her own cost or by the party that nominated the student to study in the Czech Republic.
Health care
The value of the scholarship is CZK 16,000 to CZK 17,000 per month. The amount is intended to cover the necessary costs related to staying and studying in the Czech Republic such as:

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Scholarship, applicant must meet:

The condition for granting a scholarship for studying in a bachelor’s study program is the completion of secondary education corresponding to secondary education with a school-leaving examination in the Czech Republic
The condition for granting a scholarship for studies in a follow-up master’s study program is the completion of the bachelor’s study program.
The condition for granting a scholarship for study in a doctoral study program is the completion of a master’s study program.
An applicant for a Government scholarship to study in English is obliged to sit an online entrance English language test in the course of his/her application submission, which proves sufficient knowledge of English.

Selection Criteria

Czech Republic Government Scholarship prioritizes eligible nationality, academic merit, institutional requirements (like entrance exams), and candidate attributes such as motivation, leadership, and research potential.
