The University of Hamburg offers Merit Scholarships to outstanding international students who are already enrolled in degree programs at the institution. These scholarships are designed to support highly motivated students who demonstrate both academic excellence and social engagement. To be eligible, applicants must have completed at least two semesters in their degree program, although students in shorter master’s programs or doctoral studies may apply after just one semester. The award provides a monthly stipend of up to approximately €992 and is granted for two semesters (12 months), with the possibility of renewal for up to two years in total.

This scholarship will provide the following to its recipients:
- Merit scholarships are awarded for 2 semesters (total of 12 months). You can reapply for a merit scholarship. The maximum funding duration is 2 years.
- The value of this Scholarship is €992 monthly. This amount can be used to towards the following student costs:
- Accommodation
- Living costs
- Fees
- Medical Aid
- Books/Stationery

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Have been enrolled in your subject at University of Hamburg for at least 2 semesters and are pursuing a degree.
- Students in 2-year master’s degree programs can apply after 1 completed semester. Doctoral researchers are unfortunately excluded from applying
- Not hold German citizenship
- Not be eligible for the federal student loan scheme (International students fulfilling the requirements of Section 8 of the German federal training assistance act (Bundesgesetz über individuelle Förderung der Ausbildung, BAföG) cannot be funded)
