The KI Global Master’s Scholarship is a merit-based financial aid programme offered by Karolinska Institutet, aimed at students from outside the European Union/European Economic Area (non-EU/EEA) who are admitted to one of KI’s Global Master’s programmes. Applicants must be first-year students, have paid the application fee by the stated deadline, and meet all entry/documentation requirements. The competition is strong typically, only about ten scholarships per year are awarded across all global master’s programmes, from several hundred or even over a thousand applicants.
Karolinska Institutet (KI), established in 1810, is one of the world’s foremost medical universities, located in Stockholm, Sweden. Its mission is to advance knowledge of life and to strive for better health for all. KI is particularly well known for its high output in medical and life sciences research accounting for roughly 30% of Sweden’s medical education and more than 40% of the academic medical and life science research in the country. It also has the prestigious responsibility of awarding the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine through the Nobel Assembly. The university operates across two main campuses (Solna and Flemingsberg) and maintains strong ties with the healthcare system, allowing students and researchers access to both theoretical and clinical settings.

Benefits of the Scholarship
The KI Global Master’s Scholarship covers the tuition fee. Travel, living expenses and other costs must be met with other funding.
The KI Global Master’s Scholarship only covers the tuition fee for students enrolled at a Global Master’s Programme at Karolinska Institutet.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Have applied to one of Karolinska Institutet’s global master’s programmes starting 2026*
- Have paid the application fee by 2 February 2026
- Be a first year student
- Be a tuition-fee paying student (non-EU/EEA citizen)
- Fulfill the entry and documentation requirements for the programme you have applied for
- The Master’s programme in Molecular Techniques in Life Science and the Master’s programme in Biostatistics and Data Science are not eligible for the KI Global Master’s Scholarship.

Selection Criteria
The selection of scholarship awardees is based on a comprehensive evaluation of the applicant’s CV form and supporting documentation submitted via University Admissions. The assessment is conducted by the academic staff of each global master’s programme.
The evaluation criteria that are considered during the selection process are previous education, work experience, research experience, statement of intent and overall assessment. Some programmes may include additional criteria specific to their field of study in the CV form.
