The Chang Gung University (CGU) Scholarships for International Doctoral Students is a comprehensive funding program designed to support outstanding international students pursuing doctoral degrees at Chang Gung University in Taiwan. This scholarship provides financial support through monthly stipends, with additional scholarships available for exceptional students, and tuition fee waivers for continuing students.

Chang Gung University (CGU), founded in 1987 by Mr. Wang Yung-Ching in Taoyuan, Taiwan, began as a medical institution and has grown into a leading research university. As part of the Chang Gung Medical Education and Healthcare System, CGU combines strong clinical training with advanced research in medicine, engineering, management, and humanities. Benefits of the Scholarship

This scholarship provides:

  • Monthly Stipend of up to NTD 30,000 per month (50% supported by advisor and 50% matching from CGU) throughout the duration of study
  • Extra Scholarship for Outstanding Students Up to NTD 12,000 per month
  • Two options available (choose one):
    • Option I: NTD 2,000-12,000/month based on GRE scores
    • Option II: NTD 7,000/month for graduates from top-ranked universities
  • Tuition fee waived from the third academic year onwards for Ph.D. students
  • One-time subsidy available for international students enrolled at CG

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must pass the qualifying examination for doctoral candidacy before the start of the third year of study
  • Must have academic advisor willing to support research assistantship (50% of stipend)
  • Must maintain satisfactory academic progress

For Monthly Stipend (NTD 30,000/month)

Applicants must have obtained one of the following certificates within five years prior to admission:

  • TOEFL iBT score
  • IELTS score
  • TOEIC score
  • Other English proficiency certificates as recognized by CGU

To be eligible for extra Scholarship – Option I (NTD 2,000-12,000/month):

  • Achieve GRE Quantitative Reasoning scores between 160 and 170
  • GRE exam must be taken before:
    • Fall admission: January 31
    • Spring admission: July 31
  • Submit score report and receipt to Office of International Affairs within one month after exam:
    • Fall admission: end of February
    • Spring admission: end of August

Option II (NTD 7,000/month)

Applicants must:

  • Have obtained a master’s degree from one of the top 500 universities in the QS World University Rankings
  • Master’s degree must be from the past three years (including application year) or year of graduation
  • Email a screenshot of university’s ranking in QS World University Rankings before start of Fall/Spring semester
