The Flemish Ministry of Education and Training provides scholarships to exceptional students worldwide for Master’s programs in Flanders and Brussels through the prestigious Master Mind Scholarship initiative. KU Leuven, as one of Belgium’s highest-ranked universities and among Europe’s most distinguished institutions, serves as a principal participant in this scholarship program, reinforcing its dedication to academic distinction and global collaboration.
Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven), founded in 1425, has functioned as a center of learning for nearly six centuries. Today, it represents Belgium’s premier university and stands among the oldest and most respected academic institutions in Europe. Located in the historic city of Leuven, the university hosts over 49,000 students including substantial international representation, offering comprehensive master’s programs spanning all academic disciplines from sciences and engineering to social sciences, humanities, medicine, and law.
Each Master Mind Scholarship encompasses a financial grant of €10,000 per academic year combined with complete tuition fee waiver. The scholarships remain highly competitive, with international students possessing exceptional academic records competing for selection. The Government of Flanders allocates 30 Master Mind Scholarships annually, with KU Leuven nominating up to 20 candidates who then compete at the Flemish level against nominees from all Flemish universities for final selection.
Through a unified application process, eligible candidates automatically apply for multiple scholarship opportunities including the Master Mind Scholarship (by Flemish Government), Inspiring the Outstanding Scholarship (by KU Leuven), and KU Leuven Scholarship for Central and South America (for qualifying nationalities), maximizing funding possibilities through single submission.
