The East China Normal University (ECNU) Excellent Freshman Scholarship was established to encourage outstanding overseas students pursuing their bachelor’s degree at East China Normal University. The scholarship aims to support high-performing international students as they begin their academic journey at one of China’s most prestigious universities.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Have graduated from high school or above with valid foreign passport
- Be full-time undergraduate program applicants only (not available for graduate programs)
- Have obtained HSK-5 certificate with a score of 180 or above
- Demonstrate excellent high school performance
- Not be enjoying any other type of scholarship or fellowship at the same time
Preferred Candidates:
- Winners of major competitions in China or abroad are given preference

Selection Criteria
The ECNU selection committee conducts a holistic evaluation that prioritizes strong academic performance and outstanding high school achievements, verified Chinese language proficiency with an HSK-5 score of 180 or higher, and notable accomplishments such as awards in major national or international competitions. In addition to these core criteria, the committee assesses the overall suitability of each candidate for success at ECNU and the completeness, clarity, and quality of submitted application materials, including the study plan and personal statement, to make final admission decisions.
