The Tianjin University (TJU) International Student Scholarship is established to encourage and support excellent international students to pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees at Tianjin University. Founded in 1895 as Peiyang University, Tianjin University is one of China’s oldest and most prestigious universities, recognized as a member of the “985 Project” and “211 Project,” and part of China’s “Double First Class” university initiative.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

Be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China
Be in good health
Meet the degree and age requirements for the chosen program:

For Bachelor’s Programs:

Be a high school degree holder
Be over the age of 18 and under 35 when applying

For Master’s Programs:

Be a bachelor’s degree holder
Be under the age of 40 when applying

For PhD Programs:

Be a master’s degree holder
Be under the age of 45 when applying

Selection Criteria

The Tianjin University selection committee conducts a comprehensive evaluation that prioritizes academic excellence demonstrated through consistently strong grades, along with fulfillment of program-specific eligibility criteria such as age and degree requirements. Applicants must also meet the university’s English language standards for English-taught programs—either through recognized test scores (TOEFL 80, IELTS 6.0) or by successfully passing the TJU interview—and demonstrate good physical health suitable for study. Additional factors include the completeness, clarity, and professionalism of application materials, as well as, for graduate applicants, the quality of their study or research plan and strength of recommendation letters. Ultimately, candidates are assessed holistically on their overall suitability and potential to thrive academically and personally within Tianjin University’s academic environment.
