The CAS-ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents 2026 is a prestigious fully funded scholarship program established by the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) to train and cultivate outstanding young scientists from around the world. ANSO, founded in 2018, is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization comprising 37 scientific institutions, universities, and international organizations including CAS, UNESCO-TWAS, and other renowned institutions worldwide. The scholarship program supports 100 to 200 Master’s students and 300 PhD students annually to pursue postgraduate education at two of China’s most prestigious research universities: the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) ranked 51st globally and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) ranked 54th globally, as well as various institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences throughout China. A special sub-category, the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship launched in 2022, allocates up to 40 PhD positions annually for students from developing countries with 10 scholarships prioritized for climate-related research, giving special consideration to candidates from Least Developed Countries and women researchers.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a non-Chinese citizen (not holding Chinese citizenship)
- Be proficient in English or Chinese
For Master’s Programs:
- Must be born on or after January 1, 1996 (age 29 or younger in 2026)
- Hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution
- Meet the admission criteria for international students at USTC/UCAS
- Must NOT be currently pursuing a master’s degree at any university/institution in China
For PhD Programs:
- Must be born on or after January 1, 1991 (age 34 or younger in 2026)
- Hold a master’s degree from a recognized institution
- Meet the admission criteria for international students at USTC/UCAS
- Must NOT be currently pursuing a doctoral degree at any university/institution in China
For ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship (special consideration):
- Be from a developing country
- Preference for research in climate-related fields
Additional Requirements:
- Must NOT take up other assignments during the scholarship period
- Must abide by Chinese laws and USTC/UCAS regulations and rules
- Cannot apply to both USTC and UCAS simultaneously (choose one university only)
- Good health status
- Strong academic records from previous studies

Selection Criteria
The selection emphasizes Academic Excellence (strong transcripts and degrees from previous studies), Research Potential (demonstrated through prior research experience, publications, and alignment with host institution strengths), Language Proficiency (English or Chinese competency), and Age Eligibility (born after Jan 1996 for Master’s, after Jan 1991 for PhD). Special consideration for the TWAS/UNESCO category prioritizes candidates from Developing Countries (especially LDCs), Women Researchers, and Climate-Related Research. Strong reference letters and complete applications by the January 31 deadline are essential.
