Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:

General Requirements (All Scholarships):

  • Must be a non-Chinese citizen in good health with valid foreign passport
  • Age limits: Undergraduate applicants ≤30 years, Master’s applicants ≤35 years, PhD applicants ≤40 years
  • Non-degree program applicants must be under 45 years
  • Must meet admission requirements for chosen program at XJTU
  • Must have excellent academic records and behavior

Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC):

  • Must apply for Master’s or PhD programs
  • Strong academic background with relevant bachelor’s degree (for Master’s) or master’s degree (for PhD)
  • Must submit application through both CSC system (Type B, Agency No. 10698) and XJTU system
  • Cannot hold other scholarships simultaneously

XJTU-Xi’an City Government “Belt and Road” Scholarship:

  • Must be from a Belt and Road Initiative country
  • Available for Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, and non-degree programs (6+ months duration)
  • Language requirement: Chinese language proficiency at HSK4 or above
  • Cannot hold other scholarships simultaneously
  • Must maintain good academic standing for renewal (annual review required)

Program-Specific Requirements:

  • For English-medium programs: Must demonstrate English language proficiency
  • For Chinese-medium programs: Must have adequate Chinese language proficiency (typically HSK4+)
  • Master’s applicants: Relevant bachelor’s degree with strong academic record
  • PhD applicants: Relevant master’s degree with research experience
  • Some programs may require GRE, GMAT, or other standardized tests

Selection for XJTU scholarships is highly competitive and based on academic excellence, research potential, and alignment with university priorities. Chinese Government Scholarships evaluate applicants through academic transcripts showing strong performance, quality of study plans or research proposals (800+ words for Master’s, 1,500+ words for PhD), recommendation letters from professors attesting to academic abilities, previous research experience and publications (especially for PhD), and language proficiency appropriate for the program.
