HAN University of Applied Sciences offers comprehensive scholarship opportunities for outstanding international students from outside the EU/EEA through two main programs: the HAN NL Scholarship (formerly HAN Holland Scholarship) and the Honors Scholarship. These scholarships are offered in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences, and Nuffic (the Dutch organization for internationalization in education). While these are partial scholarships designed to support tuition and living costs, they represent significant financial assistance for talented international students pursuing quality Dutch higher education.
HAN University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands, with approximately 30,000 students and campuses in Arnhem and Nijmegen. The university offers over 65 internationally-oriented programs taught in English across diverse fields including business, engineering, health sciences, education, IT, communication, and social studies. Known for its practical, career-focused education model combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience through internships and research projects, HAN maintains strong connections with industry partners and emphasizes innovative teaching methods.

Selection Criteria
Selection for HAN NL Scholarships is competitive and based on outstanding achievements in education and personal development. Applications are evaluated through motivation letters explaining why the applicant will be a successful HAN student, a short video (maximum 3 minutes) where applicants describe themselves, their strengths, what others would say about them, their chosen program, their teamwork style, and career ambitions, curriculum vitae, and recent transcripts. The selection process prioritizes students demonstrating exceptional academic performance, strong English language proficiency, clear motivation and career goals, and potential to contribute positively to the HAN community. Since more students apply than scholarships available, meeting all requirements does not guarantee an award. The Honors Scholarship operates differently – no application is required as the academic board of each study program automatically selects students who achieve excellent academic performance and earn all required credits in their first year (bachelor) or first semester (master), provided they did not receive the HAN NL Scholarship.
