The University of Delaware (UD) offers a range of merit-based scholarships and financial support opportunities for international students at both undergraduate and graduate levels. All freshman international undergraduate applicants are automatically considered for all available merit scholarships upon submission of their UD admissions application no separate scholarship application is required. International undergraduate merit awards range from $5,000 to $15,000 per year, renewable for up to four years provided the student maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA and earns 12 credits per semester. The most prestigious undergraduate award is the Eugene du Pont Distinguished Scholar Award an invitation-only scholarship for select students admitted to the UD Honors College that covers full tuition, standard on-campus room and board, comprehensive health and student center fees, a $500 per semester textbook allowance, and a one-time $2,500 enrichment activity grant.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be an international student (non-U.S. citizen or non-permanent resident) applying to or enrolled at the University of Delaware
- For undergraduate merit scholarships: must submit the UD admissions application by January 15 — no separate scholarship application is required
- Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and earn at least 12 credits per semester to remain eligible for renewable undergraduate merit awards
- Eugene du Pont Distinguished Scholar Award is by invitation only for select students admitted to the UD Honors College — no direct application
- For graduate awards (fellowships, assistantships, tuition scholarships): must be enrolled full-time in a graduate programme in good academic standing; awards are nominated by the individual department or graduate programme
- For endowment scholarships requiring separate applications: must be currently enrolled at UD and meet the specific criteria set by each donor endowment (college, major, GPA, financial need, grade level, etc.) as listed on the Additional Scholarships page
- International students holding F-1, F-2, J-1, J-2, or G-series visas are not eligible for U.S. federal financial aid but are fully eligible for all UD institutional merit and endowment scholarships
