The International Creative Excellence Undergraduate Scholarship is a prestigious merit-based tuition fee award offered by the College of Creative Arts at Massey University to support and attract outstanding creative talent from around the world for its July 2026 intake. Up to 6 scholarships are available, each providing up to NZD $10,000 in tuition fee support for the first year of an eligible undergraduate degree programme in commercial music, design, fine arts, or screen arts. The scholarship recognises not only technical artistic ability but the strength and originality of creative vision, and applicants are assessed entirely on the quality of their digital portfolio and a short written statement of creative purpose rather than on academic grades alone, making it one of the most accessible and creatively-focused scholarship opportunities available to international students in New Zealand. Applications are submitted through the Massey University student portal and must include a PDF digital portfolio and a 300-word creative purpose statement.
Massey University is one of New Zealand’s largest and most internationally recognised universities, ranked among the top 300 universities in the world and celebrated for its excellence in applied research, creative arts, business, and sciences, with campuses in Wellington, Auckland, and Palmerston North. The College of Creative Arts, known in te reo Māori as Toi Rauwhārangi, is one of the most vibrant and nationally acclaimed creative institutions in the Southern Hemisphere, producing graduates who go on to careers in design, fine arts, screen production, and music across New Zealand and internationally. Wellington, New Zealand’s compact and culturally rich capital city, is widely regarded as one of the world’s great creative cities, home to Weta Workshop, a thriving film and screen industry, and a dense network of galleries, studios, and cultural organisations that make it an exceptional environment for emerging creative practitioners.

Selection Criteria
The selection process is based entirely on the quality and originality of the applicant’s digital portfolio of creative work and the strength and clarity of the short written statement of creative purpose, with no academic grade threshold required for consideration. The selection committee assesses each portfolio for creative potential, commitment, and the distinctiveness of the applicant’s creative vision, and strong applicants are those who present a compelling and cohesive body of work that clearly demonstrates both technical skill and an original creative perspective aligned with the programme to which they are applying. Given that only up to 6 scholarships are available for the July 2026 intake, competition is expected to be high and applicants are encouraged to present their most polished and representative portfolio materials before the April 15, 2026 closing date.
