The Boston University Alumni & Friends Scholarships are prestigious merit-based awards made available to first-year international undergraduate students, funded through the generosity and commitment to international education of distinguished alumni and friends of the Boston University community. Awarded to a select number of students each year typically between 5 and 15 the scholarships range in value from $10,000 to the full cost of attendance, and are granted in recognition of exceptional academic achievement, leadership, creativity, initiative, and community impact. To be considered, international applicants need only complete their application for admission by the priority deadline of December 1; there is no separate scholarship application.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a first-year international applicant or a US citizen and US Permanent Resident applying to Boston University’s undergraduate programme
- Must submit a complete application for admission by the priority deadline to be considered for merit scholarships; no separate scholarship application is required
- Must submit the Common Application along with all required international applicant documents, including secondary school records and official transcripts, a counsellor recommendation and school report form, and a teacher evaluation
- If English is not the applicant’s first language, must submit official results from the TOEFL iBT (minimum composite score of 90–100), IELTS (minimum overall score of 7.0), or Duolingo English Test (minimum score of 125–135); competitive applicants will have scores at or above these thresholds
- Must submit documentation of financial support including a completed Confidential Statement for Financing Studies & Sponsorship Support Confirmation form along with current and liquid financial documentation
- Must submit a photocopy of the photo/data page of a current, valid passport
- SAT/ACT scores are optional; Boston University is test-optional for all first-year applicants through fall 2028 and spring 2029

Selection Criteria
