The Aarhus University Danish State Scholarship is a prestigious, government-funded award available to a limited number of the most talented non-EU/EEA applicants admitted to Master’s degree programmes at Aarhus University in Denmark. The scholarship can take the form of a full or partial tuition fee waiver, and in some cases also includes a monthly grant towards living expenses for the duration of the programme particularly for students admitted through the Faculty of Arts and Aarhus BSS, while the Faculties of Natural Sciences and Technical Sciences offer tuition waivers only. No separate scholarship application is required; when applicants submit their Master’s degree application by the specified deadline, the university automatically considers them for a scholarship as part of the overall academic assessment of their qualifications. Typically, only one or two scholarships are offered per programme, and if selected, students will receive their scholarship offer together with their admission letter, with a very short deadline to accept.

Aarhus University is one of Scandinavia’s leading research universities, founded in 1928 and located in Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city. Consistently ranked among the top 100 universities in the world, AU is renowned for its research-intensive academic culture, innovative learning environment, and strong international outlook, offering a wide range of English-taught Master’s programmes across the faculties of Arts, Business and Social Sciences (Aarhus BSS), Natural Sciences, Technical Sciences, and Health. With a vibrant international student community and a strong commitment to academic excellence and global engagement, Aarhus University provides a world-class setting for students from across the globe to develop as scholars, researchers, and future leaders.

Selection Criteria

The Aarhus University Danish State Scholarship is awarded through an academic merit-based selection process conducted simultaneously with the general admissions review, with priority given to applicants who demonstrate the strongest and most excellent academic qualifications among all eligible non-EU/EEA applicants; due to the very limited number of scholarships available typically only one or two per programme not all highly qualified applicants can be accommodated, and at some faculties strategic consideration may additionally be given to specific degree programmes or applicants from particular countries, meaning that the overall selection reflects both academic excellence and institutional priorities at the faculty level.
