The Kelliher Economics Foundation PhD Scholarship in Economics is a prestigious and substantial award of up to NZ$42,000 per annum for up to 36 months, offered every two years at the University of Auckland, Waipapa Taumata Rau, to support one outstanding New Zealand citizen or permanent resident enrolled full-time in a PhD in Economics. Established in 2012 and funded by the Kelliher Charitable Trust, the scholarship reflects the Trust’s longstanding interest in promoting the economic well-being of New Zealanders, and aims to support doctoral research in economics that contributes meaningfully to understanding and improving economic outcomes in New Zealand. Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Must be enrolled full-time in a PhD in Economics at the University of Auckland
- Must apply online through the University of Auckland’s scholarship portal by the closing date of April 30, 2026 (midnight); all sections of the application form, including any reference or endorsement requests, must be completed by the deadline
