The Eastern Illinois University (EIU) International Student Scholarship was established by the Board of Trustees to assist students from other countries in attending EIU, with awards that are competitive and designed to promote cultural exchange and diversity. The scholarship pays partial tuition for minimum full-time enrollment in on-campus EIU courses and may be granted on the basis of one or both of the following factors: financial need and academic excellence, with awards granted for two semesters at a time. In the 2024 to 2025 school year, EIU awarded over $48 million in scholarships and awards, averaging more than $12,000 per student, reflecting the university’s strong commitment to making education both accessible and affordable for all students including those from around the world.

In addition to the International Student Scholarship, EIU also offers several named awards for currently enrolled international students including the Carl Koerner Memorial Scholarship, the Eulalee L. Anderson Scholarship, the Dr. Kenneth E. Hadwiger Foreign Cultures Award, the Pratima Niranjan Shah Scholarship, and the Wang Tih-Wu Scholarship, all accessible through the EIU Academic Works platform.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a student from a country other than the United States applying to or enrolled at Eastern Illinois University
- Must have full academic admission to a degree programme at EIU
- Must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 for undergraduate students and 3.25 for graduate students, as converted to the EIU grading scale
- Must be enrolled in minimum full-time on-campus EIU courses
- Must provide proof of funding for living expenses and fees
- Current Graduate Assistants are not eligible to apply for the International Student Scholarship
- Must submit a complete scholarship application before 11:59 PM on the applicable deadline to be considered for review
- Must not create multiple applications

Selection Criteria
The EIU International Student Scholarship is awarded through a competitive selection process in which eligible applications are reviewed and assessed on the basis of financial need, academic excellence, or a combination of both factors, with awards limited in number and decisions made by the Office of International Students and Scholars in alignment with the guidelines established by the EIU Board of Trustees, with applicants encouraged to submit complete and accurate applications by the stated deadline to be considered for review.
