The Killam Predoctoral Scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis by Dalhousie University to outstanding graduate students in doctoral programs across any discipline in the sciences, engineering, humanities, and social sciences. The base value of the scholarship is $42,000 per year ($14,000 per term) for up to three years, provided the award holder maintains eligibility. Recipients are required to apply for a Tri-agency CGRS-D within the first two years of holding the award, and successful applicants will have their award topped up to $48,000 per year and the duration extended to the end of their fourth year in the PhD program. The scholarship may also include a relocation allowance for new scholars moving to Nova Scotia, paid parental leave benefits, and provisions for non-paid interruptions of up to 12 months for approved leaves of absence.

Benefits of the Scholarship
This scholarship will provide the following to its recipients:
- Up to $48,000 per year ($16,000 per term) and the duration is extended to the end of the fourth year in the PhD program
- Relocation allowance for new Killam Scholars relocating to Nova Scotia (reimbursement of travel expenses, not to exceed the lowest cost airfare by the most direct route)
- Paid parental leave benefits for scholars who do not have access to other paid parental leave supports through tri-agency funding (effective May 1, 2021)
- Non-paid interruption of award for up to 12 months for an approved leave of absence

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- This scholarship is open to both Canadian and international students pursuing a full time doctoral (PhD) degree at Dalhousie University
- This scholarship must be taken up no later than the 7th term in the PhD program
- You must have spent less than six terms (24 months) in your PhD as of May 1st of the award year to be eligible to apply.
- Killam scholarship recipients are expected to participate in Killam scholar initiatives and events whenever possible to help build the research community at Dalhousie University
