The UCL Humanitarian Scholarship is one of the most impactful and life-changing funding opportunities available in UK higher education, specifically designed to enable students who are at serious risk or have been displaced by armed conflict to pursue full-time Master’s degree studies at one of the world’s leading universities. Up to three fully funded scholarships are available for the 2026/27 academic year, each covering complete tuition fees, a maintenance payment of approximately £20,000 to cover accommodation and living costs for the duration of the programme, as well as an allowance for visa fees, the Immigration Health Surcharge, and one return international flight. The scholarship may also include a guaranteed single room in UCL accommodation if the recipient wishes to take up this option, with the accommodation cost deducted from the £20,000 maintenance payment.
University College London (UCL) is consistently ranked among the top ten universities in the world and is one of the founding colleges of the University of London. Established in 1826, UCL was the first university in England to be founded on an entirely secular basis and to admit students regardless of their religion, and it has since maintained a strong identity rooted in access, diversity, and progressive values. UCL is a world leader in research across virtually every academic discipline from the arts and social sciences to engineering, law, medicine, and the built environment and its London campus places students at the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant, diverse, and globally connected cities.

Selection Criteria
The UCL Humanitarian Scholarship is awarded solely on the basis of financial need, as assessed by the UCL Humanitarian Scholarship panel. This makes it distinct from merit-based scholarship programmes while applicants must meet all eligibility criteria and hold a valid offer to study at UCL, the primary determinant of award is the degree of financial hardship and vulnerability experienced by the candidate as a direct consequence of armed conflict and displacement. Shortlisted candidates are contacted in mid-May and asked to provide documentation evidencing both financial need and a valid travel document sufficient to support a UK student visa application.
