The Google Student Researcher Program is designed to foster academic collaboration by giving PhD students the opportunity to contribute to research projects connected to Google’s scientific and technological priorities. Applicants may be considered for placements across a range of Google’s research organizations, including Google DeepMind, Google Research, and Google Cloud, allowing the company to match students with projects that align with their academic backgrounds, technical skills, and research interests. During the placement, Student Researchers work alongside experienced researchers on exploratory projects addressing real-world and large-scale challenges. The programme provides participants with an opportunity to apply their academic expertise in a research environment while contributing to work across a diverse range of scientific and technological fields.

The company’s research activities cover a broad range of areas, including artificial intelligence, algorithm optimization, sustainability, and advanced computing systems, with a strong emphasis on foundational research and scientific progress. Through the Student Researcher Program, Google gives PhD students the opportunity to engage with this research ecosystem and contribute to projects that may have applications at significant scale. The program is specifically non-conversion eligible, meaning it is intended for students who plan to continue their academic studies rather than use the placement as a direct pathway into full-time employment at Google. This makes the opportunity particularly suitable for doctoral researchers seeking to strengthen their research experience while remaining focused on their academic careers.
