The GCUB International Mobility Program (GCUB-Mob) is now open for its Fifth Edition, offering international students from all five continents the opportunity to pursue Master’s or Doctorate degrees at Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) associated with the International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB). In this edition, 539 Master’s and 350 Doctoral scholarships — accompanied by monthly stipends — will be offered by 62 Brazilian universities, with academic programmes scheduled to begin in 2027. Interested applicants may submit their applications starting May 25, 2026, with applications closing at 11:59 p.m. (BRT) on July 6, 2026. The programme is carried out with the support of the Guimarães Rosa Institute of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (IGR-MRE), the Organization of American States (OAS), the National Council of State Research Funding Agencies (CONFAP), the Unión de Universidades de América Latina y el Caribe (UDUALC), and the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).

GCUB, founded on October 29, 2008, is a non-profit civil association with academic, scientific, and cultural objectives, comprising a network of 104 Brazilian HEIs and 10 foreign institutions. Its mission is to build academic, scientific, and cultural relations among member institutions and to promote university internationalization through international cooperation. The GCUB-Mob programme strategically contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, promoting SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by expanding access to postgraduate studies and strengthening global research cooperation.

Benefits of the Programme

This programme will provide the following to its recipients:

  • Exemption from payment of all academic fees related to the selected programme
  • Access to university restaurants (where available), under the same terms as other students of the host HEI
  • Access to classes, study rooms, libraries, laboratories, and other university services, under the same conditions as local students
  • Monthly stipends for Master’s students, paid by the host HEI for up to 24 months.
  • Monthly stipends for Doctorate students, paid by the host HEI for up to 48 months.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:

  • Must be a citizen of a State that maintains diplomatic relations with Brazil
  • Must not hold Brazilian nationality
  • Must declare good physical and mental health to undertake graduate studies
  • Must be able to finance extra expenses before receiving the scholarship, including airfare, visa issuance, international health insurance, and other living expenses
  • Must indicate the course level (Master’s or Doctorate) in the application
  • Must submit an undergraduate diploma, regardless of the course level chosen
  • Doctorate applicants must verify whether their chosen Graduate Programme requires a Master’s degree; failure to meet this requirement results in disqualification
  • Must follow the language requirements of the Graduate Programme applied to, and demonstrate at least an intermediate level of Portuguese before defending their dissertation or thesis
  • May apply to up to four Master’s or Doctorate programmes, in different HEIs, preferably from different regions of Brazil

Selection Criteria

The evaluation process is carried out in three eliminatory phases. The first phase, Analysis of Document Consistency, is conducted by a Committee appointed by the GCUB Executive Board, which reviews submitted documents and eliminates incomplete or late applications. The second phase, Analysis of Merit and Eligibility, is conducted by the host HEIs, who evaluate applications and indicate pre-approval or non-approval, considering geographical distribution of applicants where possible. The third phase, Final Classification, is carried out by an Advisory Evaluation Committee composed of PhDs and professors from GCUB-associated HEIs, which makes final decisions based on geographical distribution, professorial affiliation, candidates’ order of preference, the Human Development Index (HDI/UNDP) of the candidate’s country of origin, and gender balance.
