The Chengdu Sistership City Scholarship is a government-funded scholarship established in March 2014 by the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government to further exchange and cooperation between Chengdu City and its international Sister Cities, and to enhance mutual understanding and friendship. The Scholarship is provided by the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government to support the study and living of international students from international Sister Cities who receive degree/diploma education or non-degree programs for more than three months in Chengdu.

The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), founded in 1956, is a national key multidisciplinary university located in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, specialising in electronic engineering and information science and technology. The university integrates science, engineering, management, and liberal arts, and has earned high academic recognition both domestically and internationally. UESTC operates across four campuses — Qingshuihe, Shahe, Jiulidi, and Yongning — and is home to over 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students. With 23 schools and 65 undergraduate programmes, the university maintains strong partnerships with numerous international universities and research institutions, and its faculty and students are well known for contributions to electronic engineering, computer science, telecommunications, and related disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:

Applicants should be citizens from the Sister Cities and hold confirmation letters issued by the related government departments of Sister Cities , with foreign nationalities, friendly to China, and in good health
Applicants should abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government, have good performance, and meet the admission requirements of UESTC
Applicants should have the right attitude to study, without breaking school rules and disciplines, and have good academic performance
International students who have already been awarded another scholarship are not allowed to apply for this Scholarship

Selection Criteria

Applicants are assessed through a structured two-stage evaluation process. The Scholarship Committee of UESTC conducts an initial screening of submitted documents, after which qualified applicants are referred to the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government for final appraisal and approval. Selection is based on the applicant’s academic performance, compliance with Chinese laws and UESTC regulations, demonstrated commitment to their studies, and their connection to one of Chengdu’s officially recognized Sister Cities. The shortlist of scholarship winners is posted on the university website for 5 working days to allow for any disagreements or queries.
