The Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program offers scientists, writers, scholars, public intellectuals, and artists a rare chance to pursue ambitious projects for a full academic year in a vibrant interdisciplinary setting amid the resources of Harvard University. The Institute welcomes applications proposing innovative work that confronts pressing social, scientific, and policy issues and seeks to engage audiences beyond academia, and welcomes though does not limit eligibility to proposals that focus on women, gender, and society, or that draw on the Schlesinger Library’s collections. Applicants are also invited to submit proposals relevant to the Institute’s multiyear focus area for 2024–2029, academic freedom and connecting across difference, addressing intellectual virtues, free and open inquiry, diversity of thought, political polarization, inequality, religious pluralism, and other policy issues relating to institutions of higher education, as well as proposals that constructively challenge disciplinary orthodoxies.

The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study is part of Harvard University, located in Radcliffe Yard in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Fellows are granted full-time Harvard appointments as visiting fellows, giving them access to the Harvard Library system and University athletic facilities, and are provided office or studio space in Byerly Hall, within Radcliffe Yard, for the duration of their fellowship.

Selection Criteria

Each application is reviewed in a two-tiered process: first by experts in the relevant field, then by a multidisciplinary committee charged with selecting a diverse class of fellows of the highest achievement and potential.
