The Expatrio Scholarship 2026 is a creativity-based competition offering a prize fund of over €40,000 to support international students moving to Germany to study. Applicants submit a video of no more than two minutes answering the question “What inspired you to choose Germany for your future?”, and ten winners are selected based on passion, originality, and creativity rather than academic grades, age, or nationality. Videos may be recorded in any language, provided English or German subtitles are included, and must not contain any copyrighted content. Scholarship winners receive their prize money only after arriving in Germany and activating their Blocked Account and Health Insurance with Expatrio; the scholarship itself cannot be used to fund the Blocked Account.
Expatrio is a German company providing visa and relocation solutions for international students moving to Germany, including the Blocked Account, health insurance, a free German bank account, and other services bundled into its Value Package. The Expatrio Scholarship is offered as part of the company’s mission to support international students through their transition to studying and living in Germany.
Benefits of the Scholarship
This programme will provide the following to its recipients:
- 1st place: €15,000
- 2nd place: €12,000
- 3rd place: €9,000
- 4th place: rent paid for six months, up to a total value of €3,000
- 5th place: a new laptop up to the value of €1,500
- 6th place: German language classes up to a value of €600
- 7th place: a semester contribution fee paid up to a value of €500
- 8th place: a semester contribution fee paid up to a value of €500
- 9th place: €300
- 10th place: €300
- All monetary prize values are transferred directly into the winner’s Bank Account

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a new Expatrio Value Package customer (have applied, or intend to apply, for the Value Package without yet having activated their Blocked Account and Health Insurance), or have previously applied for only a Blocked Account or only Health Insurance and upgraded to the Value Package
- Must begin their studies in Germany in the Winter Semester 2026
- Must submit their video entry and Value Package application before the deadline of September 30, 2026
- Must arrive in Germany and activate their Blocked Account and Health Insurance with Expatrio by October 31, 2026
- Must submit a video, no longer than 2 minutes and in mp4 format, answering the question “What inspired you to choose Germany for your future?” in English or German, or in another language with English or German subtitles, containing no copyrighted content
- Applicants are not judged on age, nationality, academic background, or similar demographics
- May apply for the Scholarship even before receiving a university admission letter, provided studies begin in the Winter Semester 2026

Selection Criteria
Submissions are judged on creativity, originality, and how clearly the applicant’s video answers the scholarship question. While high-quality video production will be recognized, applicants are assured that submissions will be considered fairly and will not be judged solely on production quality, meaning everyone has a fair chance regardless of access to equipment or editing skills. Winners will be announced before the end of 2026 and will be informed by email, with results also shared on Expatrio’s social media channels.
