The Bevica Scholarship Programme is an annual innovation and research scholarship offered by Bevica Fonden — a Danish foundation working in the field of Universal Design and inclusion — inviting students and lecturers from all disciplines at Danish educational institutions to answer the question: “How can we create an inclusive society for all?” The programme supports innovative and courageous thinkers in exploring how their field of expertise can contribute to the development of Universal Design as a tool for realising the UN Sustainable Development Goals’ promise of Leave No One Behind. Bevica Fonden has ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and is committed to promoting research and development of universally designed products, services, equipment, and facilities. The 2027–2028 programme runs across four phases: a Registration Phase (September–December 2026), an Idea Phase (February–April 2027), a Development Phase (May–October 2027), and a Research Phase (2028–2029).

Bevica Fonden is a Danish foundation established to advance Universal Design and create an inclusive society for all in Denmark and beyond. Through its Scholarship Programme, Universal Design Hub, partnerships with Danish educational institutions, and knowledge-sharing activities, Bevica Fonden actively supports interdisciplinary research, capacity building, and innovation in Universal Design across academia, business, and civil society. The foundation works strategically to embed Universal Design thinking across Danish education and professional practice, connecting researchers, students, lecturers, and practitioners across all fields.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:

Students:

Must be enrolled at a Danish university, university college (professionshøjskole), or school of architecture and design
Must have completed at least their 3rd semester by the start of the Idea Phase in February 2027
Open to all disciplines and fields of study
Must be able to participate physically in mandatory workshop sessions (February 6, March 6, and June 4–5, 2027, and the Award Show on October 7, 2027)

Lecturers:

Must be employed at a Danish research-based university, university college, or school of architecture and design
Must be able to document active teaching activities within the last two years at the start of the Idea Phase in February 2027
Open to all disciplines and fields of study
Must be able to participate physically in mandatory workshop sessions

Selection Criteria

The selection process is two-stage. In the first stage (April 2027), the Bevica Scholarship jury evaluates all first-round project proposals submitted by March 30, 2027, and publishes a shortlist on May 1, 2027. In the second stage (August–September 2027), the jury reviews final submissions from shortlisted participants (deadline: August 16, 2027) and selects finalists to pitch at the Award Show on October 7, 2027. Winners are announced at the Award Show. Selection is based on the originality and boldness of the project idea, its relevance to Universal Design and inclusion, the quality of interdisciplinary collaboration, and the potential of the project to generate new knowledge and societal impact in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the SDGs.
