Binghamton University offers a range of merit-based scholarships to its incoming undergraduate students, with all applicants automatically considered upon submission of their application no separate scholarship application process is required. Binghamton attracts exceptionally high-quality students, and scholarship awards are competitive and highly selective, reflecting the calibre of the student body. Criteria considered for scholarship awards include academic merit, donor preferences, chosen major, programme participation, and in many cases financial need as determined by the FAFSA. Three flagship merit scholarships are available the President’s Scholarship, the Provost’s Scholarship, and the Dean’s Scholarship for students of exceptional achievement, selected at the time of admission.

Benefits of the Programme
Depending on the specific scholarship awarded, eligible recipients may receive some or all of the following benefits:
- $10,000 per year for up to 4 years
- Up to the full in-state cost of attendance (approximately $30,000) per year for up to 4 years
- Full tuition coverage for eligible students
- Scholarships are renewable annually when the recipient meets the specified GPA/full-time enrollment requirements.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:
President’s, Provost’s, and Dean’s Scholarships:
- Must be an incoming first-year student applying to Binghamton University
- Must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement
- Must maintain full-time enrollment and a minimum GPA throughout the scholarship period
Binghamton University Achievement Scholarship:
- Must be an incoming first-year student — all applications are automatically considered
- Must maintain a specified GPA to retain the scholarship each year
Excelsior Scholarship:
- Must be a New York State resident
- Must meet income and academic requirements as set by the Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC)
- Details and application are managed by HESC at hesc.ny.gov
NYS STEM Incentive Program:
- Must be a New York State resident
- Must rank in the top 10% of students in their New York State high school
- Must pursue a STEM degree at an eligible SUNY institution

Selection Criteria
All incoming applicants are automatically considered for Binghamton University scholarships — no separate application or essay submission is required. Selection criteria include academic merit, donor preferences, chosen major, programme participation, and financial need (as determined by FAFSA where applicable). The scholarship pool at Binghamton is highly competitive, reflecting the strong academic profile of the student body. The President’s, Provost’s, and Dean’s Scholarships are awarded at the time of the admissions decision to the most exceptional applicants. For the Achievement Scholarship, 20 scholars receive $10,000 per year and 5 scholars receive up to the full in-state cost of attendance per year, with awards determined through the admissions review process. Full-time enrollment and maintenance of a specified minimum GPA are required to retain all scholarship awards.
