The Bill Harvie Scholarship/Fellowship is an entrance award offered by the University of Waterloo to one outstanding undergraduate student entering Year One of any program in the School of Accounting and Finance. The award is valued at $5,000 over four years across eight academic terms, structured as scholarship payments of $1,000 in Years One and Two, and fellowship payments of $1,500 in Years Three and Four in exchange for teaching or research assistance. Continuation of the award in Years Two, Three and Four is dependent on the recipient maintaining an overall average of 80% or higher. No application is required as eligible students are automatically considered at the time of admission. Selection is based on academic achievement and leadership qualities.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:

  • Must be entering Year One of any program in the School of Accounting and Finance at the University of Waterloo, specifically Accounting and Financial Management, Sustainability and Financial Management, Computing and Financial Management, Mathematics/Chartered Professional Accountancy, or Science and Financial Management
  • Selection is based on academic achievement and leadership qualities
  • For AFM and SFM students: must complete the AFM Admissions Assessment (AFMAA)
  • For Math students: must have contest results as administered through the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC)
  • Continuation in Years Two, Three and Four requires maintaining an overall average of 80% or higher

Selection Criteria

Selection is based on academic achievement and leadership qualities. No application is required as all eligible students entering Year One of an accounting and finance program at the University of Waterloo are automatically considered.
