The Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students (for Freshman) is offered through Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) to encourage outstanding international students to pursue studies and academic research at BFSU. The scholarship is available to self-financed applicants and is categorised into three types Category A (most comprehensive), Category B, and Category C each covering a different combination of tuition, accommodation, living allowance, and medical insurance. The scholarship list and category are published on the official BFSU International Student Office website for a public notice period of five working days following selection.
Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), founded in 1941 and located in Haidian District, Beijing, is one of China’s most prestigious and internationally renowned universities, specialising in foreign languages, area studies, and international affairs. BFSU offers instruction in more than 100 languages and is widely regarded as China’s leading institution for foreign language education and international studies. BFSU’s Overseas Students Affairs Office (OSAO) oversees all scholarship and admissions services for international students.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a non-Chinese citizen, friendly to China, and in good physical and mental health
- Must meet the general admission requirements of BFSU as stipulated in the BFSU International Student Admission Brochure
Academic Background and Age Requirements:
- Bachelor’s programme: High school graduate or equivalent; aged under 25
- Master’s programme: Bachelor’s degree holder or equivalent; aged under 35
- Doctoral programme: Master’s degree holder or equivalent; aged under 40
- Undergraduate Foundation programme: High school graduate or equivalent with pre-admission notice; aged under 24
- Visiting and Exchange students: Bachelor’s degree holder or current undergraduate/postgraduate student; aged under 45
- Visiting scholars: Master’s degree or above, or associate professor title or above; aged under 50
Language and Academic Requirements:
- For Chinese-taught Foundation and Visiting programmes: minimum HSK Level 3
- For Chinese-taught Degree programmes: minimum HSK Level 4
- For foreign language-taught programmes: check programme catalogues and faculty notices
- Minimum academic performance: average score of 80 out of 100 or GPA of 3.0; current students must have an average score of no less than 80 in the previous academic year

Selection Criteria
The university selects qualified recipients through a document review and academic assessment process conducted by the International Student Office. The scholarship list and category are published on the official BFSU International Student Office website for a public notice period of five working days. All applicants must meet BFSU’s general admission requirements before being considered for the scholarship. Minimum academic performance standards apply applicants must have an average score of at least 80 out of 100 or a GPA of 3.0 in their most recent academic year. Submitted documents will not be returned regardless of application outcome, and individual notifications will not be sent to unsuccessful applicants. Applicants are solely responsible for the authenticity of all submitted materials falsification will lead to disqualification.
