The Iowa State University International Merit Scholarships are offered to both first-year and transfer international undergraduate students based on academic excellence and a demonstrated record of accomplishments. Two scholarship tiers are available the Award of Achievement and the Award of Distinction each providing significant financial support over the duration of the undergraduate degree. Scholarships are limited in number and selection is highly competitive. To be considered, students must complete the OneApp Scholarship Application through Iowa State’s scholarship portal students must first complete the General Application and then select the International Student Admissions Scholarship Application for their term under Opportunities > Recommended. Scholarship funds may only be applied toward undergraduate tuition and fees. Scholarship renewal each semester requires maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, enrolling in at least 12 credits per semester (excluding summer), and remaining classified as an international student.

This programme will provide the following to its recipients:
First-Year International Students:
- Award of Achievement: $5,000–$10,000 per year (up to $40,000 total over 8 semesters)
- Award of Distinction: $2,000–$4,000 per year (up to $16,000 total over 8 semesters)
International Transfer Students:
- Award of Achievement: $5,000–$8,000 per year (up to $20,000 total over 5 semesters)
- Award of Distinction: $2,000–$4,000 per year (up to $10,000 total over 5 semesters)

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:
First-Year International Students:
- Must have received an offer of admission to Iowa State University as an international first-year student
- Must be assessed international tuition rates
- Must accept the offer of admission by May 1 (fall) or December 15 (spring)
- Must submit the OneApp Scholarship Application through the Iowa State scholarship portal by the relevant deadline
International Transfer Students:
- Must have received an offer of admission to Iowa State University as an international transfer student
- Must be assessed international tuition rates
- Must have a cumulative GPA equivalent to at least 3.0 out of 4.0 (B average)
- Must accept the offer of admission by May 1 (fall) or December 15 (spring)
- Must submit the OneApp Scholarship Application through the Iowa State scholarship portal by the relevant deadline
Renewal Requirements (both tracks):
- Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Must enroll in at least 12 credits per semester (excluding summer)
- Must remain classified as an international student
- Scholarship funds may only be applied toward undergraduate tuition and fees

Selection Criteria
Merit scholarships at Iowa State University are highly competitive, with a limited number of awards available each semester. For first-year international students, selection is based on a holistic review of SAT/ACT scores and high school grades. For transfer international students, selection is based on a strong academic record and exceptional achievements in areas such as mathematics, sciences, arts, leadership, community service, innovation, or entrepreneurship. Applicants must submit the OneApp Scholarship Application by the relevant priority or final deadline to be considered — priority deadline applicants receive first consideration. Scholarship funds are limited and early submission is strongly encouraged.
