The University of Otago Global Scholarships are undergraduate entrance scholarships designed to support international students from nominated countries who plan to undertake full-time on-campus study at the University of Otago from first year (100-level) through to degree completion. The scholarship is valued at NZ$15,000 and is payable only as a credit towards tuition fees it cannot be received as cash. For students commencing in Semester 2 (July), half the scholarship funds (NZ$7,500) will be credited in Semester 2 and the other half in Semester 1 of the following year. Students applying from outside New Zealand must indicate their interest in being considered for international scholarships when completing their application for study through the eVision student management system. Students applying with a New Zealand study background may apply through the online Entrance Scholarship application portal.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:
- Must have completed secondary (high) school or equivalent qualification that grants University Entrance either overseas or in New Zealand
- Must intend to enrol or have enrolled in full-time undergraduate degree-level study at the University of Otago from 100-level (first year) through to degree attainment
- Must be studying on campus throughout the duration of studies (online study is not eligible)
- Must hold a passport from one of the 13 nominated countries: Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam
- Must not be sponsored by their home Government or the New Zealand Government
- Must not be enrolling into a foundation certificate programme only — foundation students are ineligible unless progressing into an undergraduate degree
- Must not hold another University of Otago Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship concurrently (if awarded multiple scholarships, the highest value scholarship will normally apply)

Selection Criteria
Recipients are selected based on academic potential as demonstrated by programme admission, and by holding a passport from one of the 13 nominated countries. No separate essay, reference letter, or scholarship-specific documentation is required eligible applicants are considered automatically when they indicate their interest in being considered for international scholarships during the eVision application process. The scholarship is awarded once only per student, regardless of how many programmes they apply to. If a student’s residency status changes from international to domestic at any point during the scholarship tenure, the University may suspend or terminate the scholarship and require repayment of funds in part or in full.
