The NTHU International Student Scholarship is offered by the National Tsing Hua University’s Office of Global Affairs to attract talented international students to pursue undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies at one of Taiwan’s most prestigious research universities. Applications for NTHU’s Spring 2027 programmes are now open, and the university invites talented students from around the world to join its vibrant academic community. The scholarship is divided into two categories: Type A (Full Scholarship) covering tuition fees plus a monthly stipend, and Type B (Tuition Waiver Only) covering tuition fees without a monthly stipend. PhD applicants are automatically considered for the scholarship upon applying; Bachelor’s and Master’s applicants must tick the scholarship box in the application form. The scholarship is non-permanent and must be reapplied for annually.
National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), founded in Beijing in 1911 and re-established in Hsinchu, Taiwan in 1956, is one of Taiwan’s most prestigious and internationally recognised research universities. Ranked 32nd in Asia and 168th globally, NTHU has been at the forefront of education and research since its establishment in Taiwan in 1949, and has earned a strong reputation for excellence in information and communication technology, biotechnology, and basic sciences. The university is home to students from over 80 countries and offers programmes across seven colleges, maintaining strong connections with Taiwan’s world-leading technology industry through its location in Hsinchu — Taiwan’s Silicon Valley.

- Tuition and credit fees waived
- Bachelor’s: NT$5,000 per month
- Master’s: NT$5,000 per month
- PhD: NT$20,000–40,000 per month

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a non-Taiwan national with the required academic qualifications (high school diploma for Bachelor’s; Bachelor’s degree for Master’s; Master’s degree for PhD) and must meet the health criteria
- Must not hold R.O.C. (Taiwan) citizenship
- If formerly a Mainland China citizen: must hold foreign nationality with no Taiwan household registration and at least 6 years of overseas residence; for medicine-related fields, 8 or more years of overseas residence is required
- Must not hold Overseas Chinese Student (Overseas Compatriot Student) status
- Must submit all required application documents through the NTHU International Student Online Application System by the September 30, 2026 deadline
- PhD applicants are automatically considered for the scholarship; Bachelor’s and Master’s applicants must select the scholarship option in the application form

Selection Criteria
Scholarship decisions are made by NTHU’s Office of Global Affairs in coordination with the academic departments. PhD applicants are automatically considered upon admission. Bachelor’s and Master’s applicants must indicate their scholarship interest in the application form. Selection is based on academic excellence, research potential, the quality of submitted application documents including transcripts, recommendation letters, and a study/research plan, and the overall strength of the candidate’s academic profile. Scholarship results are announced in late December 2026. The scholarship is non-permanent current international students must reapply annually and are assessed based on academic performance during the previous semester.
