Wageningen University & Research (WUR) offers a range of scholarship opportunities to attract talented international students to its international classroom for the 2027–2028 academic year. These include the Excellence Programme, the Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP), the Anne van den Ban Fund (ABF), and the NL Scholarship, each targeting a different group of prospective students. All WUR scholarship programmes are for prospective students only (not for those already enrolled at WUR) and apply exclusively to the MSc September start, except for the NL Scholarship, which also has a February intake.

Anne van den Ban Fund (ABF):

NL Scholarship:

One award of €5,000 (the selection committee may award up to three, for a total of €5,000, €10,000, or €15,000)

Eligibility Criteria

Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP):

Must be a citizen of an African country
Must submit a complete MSc application before 1 December 2026
Must be unconditionally admitted to the MSc programme
Must have a First Class Honours degree and a GPA of 80% or higher
Preference is given to students who have not yet obtained a master’s degree

Anne van den Ban Fund (ABF):

Must be an international student from a developing country
Must start an MSc programme in September 2027 with unconditional admission
This scholarship is based on invitation only; direct application is not possible

NL Scholarship:

Must have a GPA of 80% or higher
Must hold one of the eligible nationalities (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America, or Vietnam)
Must have conditional or unconditional admission to an eligible on-campus MSc programme
Must not have previously participated in a degree programme in the Netherlands
Not available for online master’s or Double Degree programmes, or for applicants with dual nationality where one nationality is from an EU/EEA country

Selection Criteria

For the Excellence Programme and ASP, the WU Scholarship Selection Committee assesses all complete MSc applications submitted before 1 December 2026. Around March–April 2027, selected applicants are informed by email that they have advanced to the final stage, where a lottery is held to determine scholarship recipients; results are announced on 7 April 2027, with remaining candidates placed on a waiting list. The ABF is coordinated in close cooperation with the university and combined with the WU Fellowship Programme, and is based on invitation only, with results communicated during May 2027. For the NL Scholarship, eligible candidates who are conditionally or unconditionally admitted are automatically invited to apply, with invitations sent weekly from 1 February 2027 onwards; invited applicants must then submit their scholarship application before 1 May 2027.
