The Martingale Foundation Scholarships are fully funded postgraduate scholarships offered by the Martingale Foundation to enable talented individuals from low-socioeconomic backgrounds to thrive in world-leading postgraduate research in the Mathematical Sciences and Artificial Intelligence. The Foundation partners with ten of the UK’s leading research universities the University of Bristol, University of Cambridge, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, Imperial College London, University of Manchester, University of Oxford, University College London, University of Warwick, and the University of York to offer a selection of eligible Masters and PhD programmes. Beyond the full financial support, Martingale Scholars receive tailored university application support, a comprehensive professional development programme including leadership training and connections with top academic and industry professionals, and membership of a prestigious research community. Applications are submitted through the Martingale Foundation’s online application portal, and the Foundation provides full support to scholars through the university admissions process for each partner institution.
The Martingale Foundation is a UK-based charitable organisation incubated by Purposeful Ventures and headquartered at 1 EdCity Walk, London W12 7TF. The Foundation was established with a mission to open the doors of world-leading postgraduate research to exceptional students from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds who would otherwise be unable to access such opportunities. The Foundation operates through partnerships with ten leading UK research universities and provides not only financial support but a rich ecosystem of mentoring, leadership development, and community building for its scholars.

Eligibility Criteria

Selection Criteria
The Martingale Foundation scholarships are highly competitive and awarded on the basis of academic excellence, research potential, and socioeconomic background. The Foundation provides full support to scholars throughout the university admissions process for each partner institution. Candidates are assessed on the quality of their academic achievements, their passion for and potential in mathematical sciences or artificial intelligence research, and their socioeconomic circumstances. The Foundation also evaluates candidates on their motivation to contribute to the research community and the broader societal impact of their work.
