The Clarkson University International Student Scholarships are a range of merit-based awards available to international undergraduate students admitted to Clarkson University. All accepted international students are automatically considered for a partial international merit scholarship of up to $40,000, with no separate application required. Additionally, special awards are available for exceptional applicants, including the Ignite Presidential Fellowship, which covers full tuition for four years for 10 outstanding first-time students; the Early Decision Incentive Scholarship of $8,000 spread over four years for Early Decision applicants; the Clarkson Visit Scholarship of $1,000 per year for four years for students who complete an official admission visit to the Potsdam campus; and the Honors Program Scholarship of $2,000 per year for students admitted to the highly competitive Clarkson Honors Program.

Benefits of the Scholarship

This scholarship will provide the following to its recipients:

  • International Merit Scholarship: Up to $40,000, automatically considered upon admission; amount based on academic record
  • Ignite Presidential Fellowship: Full tuition coverage for 4 years (8 semesters) for 10 outstanding first-time students; requires a separate application by February 15
  • Early Decision Incentive Scholarship: $8,000 total ($2,000 per year for 4 years) exclusively for Early Decision applicants
  • Clarkson Visit Scholarship: $1,000 per year for 4 years ($4,000 total) for students who complete an official undergraduate admissions visit to the Potsdam campus
  • Honors Program Scholarship: $2,000 per year for students accepted into the Honors Program; requires a separate highly competitive application

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must meet the following:

  • Must be an international student accepted for undergraduate admission to Clarkson University
  • International Merit Scholarship: All accepted international students are automatically considered; amount based on secondary school GPA, rigor of curriculum, SAT and English proficiency test scores, and letters of recommendation (for first-year students); or university GPA, rigor of curriculum, English proficiency test scores, and letters of recommendation (for transfer students)
  • Ignite Presidential Fellowship: Must apply to Clarkson University for Early Decision or Regular Decision; must submit a separate Ignite Presidential Fellowship application by February 15
  • Early Decision Incentive Scholarship: Must apply for admission via Early Decision no later than December 1; must be a new incoming freshman applicant; must submit the Early Decision admission deposit within two weeks of receiving the financial aid notice
  • Clarkson Visit Scholarship: Must complete an official undergraduate admissions visit to the Potsdam campus no later than December 1 (Early Decision) or February 15 (Regular Decision) of the senior year of high school
  • Honors Program Scholarship: Must complete the Honors Program application in addition to the regular admissions requirements; priority deadline is February 1; an on-campus or telephone interview is required

Selection Criteria

All accepted international undergraduate students are automatically evaluated for the International Merit Scholarship based on their academic record. The Ignite Presidential Fellowship, Honors Program Scholarship, and Early Decision Incentive Scholarship each require separate applications and are awarded on a competitive basis. For the Ignite Presidential Fellowship and Honors Program, applicants are evaluated on academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to driving positive change. Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress throughout their studies to retain their scholarship award.
