The Centre for Gender and Equality (Senter for likestilling) at the University of Agder awards five Master’s grants of NOK 15,000 each to UiA students submitting their thesis during the 2025–2026 academic year. The grant is open to master’s students across all academic disciplines, as equality does not have to be the main theme of the thesis it should, however, be a key analytical perspective in the research. The Centre uses a broad perspective on and understanding of equality, and applications are assessed based on the quality of the project outline, topical relevance, and regional context. Master’s theses with a focus on the Agder region will be prioritised. Grant recipients are expected to share their completed work with the Centre for Gender and Equality and other interested parties after completing their thesis.
The Centre for Gender and Equality (Senter for likestilling) is a research and competence centre at the University of Agder (UiA), located in Kristiansand, Norway. The Centre conducts and disseminates research on gender, equality, and diversity across a broad range of academic fields, provides expertise to public and private sector actors, and works to promote equal opportunities in the region and beyond. As part of its mission to encourage equality-related research, the Centre annually awards master’s grants to UiA students whose thesis work engages with equality and diversity as analytical perspectives.
Benefits of the Programme
This programme will provide the following to its recipients:
- A one-time grant of NOK 15,000, paid in two instalments: half when the thesis process begins and a supervisor is in place, and the remainder upon delivery of the approved thesis
- Five grants awarded per academic year cycle

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be admitted to and enrolled in a Master’s degree programme at the University of Agder (UiA)
- Must be submitting their Master’s thesis during the 2025–2026 academic year
- The thesis topic must be relevant to equality and diversity, and equality should be used as a key analytical perspective in the research — it does not need to be the main theme, but must be clearly connected
- Theses with a focus on the Agder region will be given priority in the selection process

Selection Criteria
Applications are assessed by the Centre for Gender and Equality based on three criteria: the quality of the project outline, the topical relevance of the thesis to equality and diversity, and the regional context of the research, with priority given to theses focused on the Agder region. The Centre draws on a broad perspective on equality and welcomes research connecting equality as an analytical tool across all academic disciplines.
