The Braemar College Sheila McDonald Award for Excellence is awarded annually to outstanding international undergraduate students entering first year of any program at the University of Waterloo who are graduates of Braemar College in Toronto, Ontario. One scholarship valued at $5,000 or two scholarships valued at $2,500 each are awarded each year, with selection based on academic excellence. This scholarship honours Braemar’s founder, Sheila McDonald, who instilled a love of learning in students and inspired teachers. No separate application is required as the winner is chosen by the University of Waterloo in consultation with the Braemar College academic department.

Braemar College is a private high school founded in 1995 in Toronto, located in a downtown heritage property on the southern border of the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto. The school offers grades 9 to 12 of the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum and has helped students from around the world enter top Canadian universities over the past 25 years. It operates through a flexible four nine-week term system, allowing students to focus deeply on their studies and develop their full academic potential. The college maintains a strong partnership with the University of Waterloo, reflecting a shared commitment to academic excellence and student success.
