The Canadian General-Tower Scholarships in the Environment have been established by Canadian General-Tower Ltd. to encourage academic excellence, attract outstanding students, and enhance the University of Waterloo’s programs related to the environment. Three scholarships, valued at up to $2,000 each, are awarded annually to outstanding students entering Year One in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, and one of Environment and Business, Environment Resources and Sustainability, Geography and Environmental Management, or Planning in the Faculty of Environment. No separate application is required as students are automatically considered upon admission.

The University of Waterloo is home to Canada’s largest Faculty of Environment, ranked #2 in Canada for environmental science and engineering according to the 2025 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. With over 2,500 undergraduate students, 90 full-time faculty members, and a world-renowned co-op program, the Faculty is dedicated to shaping a sustainable future through interdisciplinary programs and exceptional research. The scholarship is funded by Canadian General-Tower Ltd. (CGT), a privately owned global leader in polymeric-coated fabrics and films founded in 1869 and headquartered in Cambridge, Ontario, with manufacturing facilities across four continents.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:

  • Candidates must be entering Year One of Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environment and Business, Environment Resources and Sustainability, Geography and Environmental Management, or Planning at the University of Waterloo
  • Candidates must be Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents, or International Students
  • Must have outstanding academic performance
