The ANU PhD Scholarship is a stipend scholarship offered by ANU Colleges to Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates at the Australian National University. It is normal for recipients to undertake study on a full-time basis; however, in accordance with strict criteria, the scholarship can be awarded for part-time study for domestic candidates only. International scholars must undertake study on a full-time basis. No separate application is required all eligible candidates who have applied for admission will be automatically considered for the scholarship. Applications must be complete at the time of submission, including all supporting documentation and referee reports, in order to be considered in the scholarship ranking process. Applicants are also strongly encouraged to make contact with the relevant Graduate Studies Convener or a prospective supervisor prior to lodging an application to discuss the proposed research topic and related matters.

Benefits of the Scholarship
This scholarship will provide the following to its recipients:
- $39,069 per annum (paid fortnightly) for 3.5 years
- Travel and removal allowances for students relocating to Canberra to commence their research program
- Thesis allowance
- Dependent Child allowance (International students only)

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a domestic or international student
- Must have applied for admission to a PhD or Professional Doctorate by Research program at ANU
- Must have a Bachelor degree with first-class honours (some Colleges may consider students with upper second-class honours), or a Master degree with a research component or equivalent from a recognised university

Selection Criteria
Recipients are selected based on academic merit. All eligible candidates who have submitted a complete admission application — including all supporting documentation and referee reports — are automatically considered in the scholarship ranking process. Continuation of the award is based on academic performance. Extensions of 3 months are available, or 6 months for Indigenous candidates or those with an industry engagement of more than 60 FTE days.
