The Czech Government Scholarships for Developing Countries are offered by the Government of the Czech Republic within the framework of its Foreign Development Cooperation, in support of the study of foreign nationals from selected developing countries at public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic. From the late 1950s to the present day, over 20,000 foreign nationals have completed their studies at Czech universities with a scholarship of the Czech Government. Scholarships are available for studies conducted in the Czech language (Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes for applicants from Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, and Belarus, plus a one-year Czech language preparatory course) and for studies conducted in English (selected Master’s and Doctoral programmes open to applicants from all eligible countries). Applicants for Czech-taught programmes are normally required to sit entrance examinations at the university concerned, while applicants for English-taught programmes must pass an online English language test as part of the application process.

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT) of the Czech Republic is the central state administration body responsible for pre-school, primary, secondary, and higher education, as well as science, research, and international academic relations in the Czech Republic. The Czech Government Scholarships for Developing Countries are implemented jointly by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health. The program reflects the Czech Republic’s long-standing commitment to international development cooperation and its tradition of supporting talented students from the Global South in accessing world-class higher education in Central Europe.
