Qatar University (QU) offers a wide range of competitive, non-competitive, and other scholarships to newly admitted and currently enrolled Bachelor’s degree students. Competitive academic scholarships include the Student Recruitment and Excellence Scholarship (with a Recruitment Track for designated colleges and majors, and an Excellence Track for outstanding students across all colleges), the International Students Scholarship, H.H. the Emir of Qatar’s Scholarship for Academic Excellence, the Outstanding Performance Scholarship, GCC States Scholarships nominated through embassies, and the Talent Scholarship for students gifted in scientific research, technology and innovation, literature, acting, media, or athleticism. Non-competitive scholarships include the GCC Qatari Certificate Scholarships and the Children of Qatar University Employees Scholarship, while other scholarships include Short Scholarships for the Arabic Program for Non-Native Speakers and College of Education Diploma Scholarships.

Qatar University, established in Doha in 1973, is Qatar’s national university, offering a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate academic programmes across its colleges, including Arts and Sciences, Education, Nursing, and Sharia and Islamic Studies, and serving both Qatari and international student populations.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:

  • Must hold a high school certificate or its equivalent, and must receive final (unconditional) admission to Qatar University in the relevant Bachelor’s programme
  • International Students Scholarship and H.H. the Emir of Qatar’s Scholarship require a minimum high school average of 95%; the Talent Scholarship requires a minimum high school average of 80%
  • Current QU students applying for the Outstanding Performance Scholarship must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 out of 4.00 and have completed at least 30 credit hours at QU
  • GCC States Scholarship applicants must obtain a letter from their country’s embassy in Qatar nominating them for the scholarship
  • Talent Scholarship applicants must submit a portfolio letter, a minimum of two letters of recommendation from prestigious entities relevant to their talent area, and pass a personal interview with the committee (sport talent applicants must also pass a physical fitness examination)
  • Children of Qatar University Employees Scholarship applicants must have a parent who is a full-time QU employee
  • Applicants generally may not benefit from this scholarship and another sponsorship or scholarship simultaneously
  • Recipients must maintain the minimum cumulative GPA, credit-hour load, and continuous registration conditions specified for each scholarship type to keep their award

Selection Criteria

Scholarship applications are evaluated by the Scholarship Committee after the deadline of the online scholarship application. For academic scholarships, the applicant’s scores in standardized tests such as IELTS or TOEFL, and SAT, ACT, or the QU Math Placer, may be considered alongside any other criteria the Committee deems appropriate. Talent Scholarship applicants are shortlisted and undergo a personal interview to assess their eligibility and qualifications, while GCC States Scholarship nominees are selected and nominated directly by their country’s embassy in Qatar. Final admission and scholarship decisions are communicated to applicants by email according to QU’s announced scholarship timeline.
