The Peter and Traudl Engelhorn Foundation invites outstanding early-career researchers to apply for its Postdoc Scholarships 2027 in the field of life sciences. The scholarship runs for a maximum of two years, and its value corresponds, in Germany, to the TVL E13 or TVöD E13 pay scale, and in Austria and Switzerland to the rates of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), respectively. The Foundation typically signs a grant agreement with the scholar, the head of the research group, and the host institution, under which the institution calls up payments for the scholar every six months; overhead costs are not covered, though direct payment to the selected individual is possible with the host institution’s agreement.

The Peter and Traudl Engelhorn Foundation (Peter und Traudl Engelhorn-Stiftung) is a charitable foundation under Bavarian law, established in October 1993 and based in Neuried, near Munich, Germany. It was founded in memory of Peter Engelhorn, a former shareholder of the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Mannheim (part of the Roche Group since 1996). The Foundation is dedicated to supporting young scientific talent in the life sciences, primarily through postdoctoral scholarships and a periodically awarded research prize, and places particular emphasis on quality, excellence, and equal opportunity in its selection process, regardless of social or ethnic background, gender, disability, or religious practice.

Selection Criteria

The Foundation decides on the award of scholarships at its own discretion, and its decisions are final and not subject to legal appeal.
