The Liechtenstein Renewable Energy Enterprise Development (REED) Scholarships, alongside the related Women in Renewable Energy Access Scholarship Program, provide monitored scholarships supporting the living expenses of students undertaking renewable energy development and access programmes across Africa, with a special emphasis on supporting women’s development in this traditionally male-dominated field. The programme offers two forms of support: the Liechtenstein REED Scholarship, which assists students undertaking a full graduate course related to renewable energy, and the Liechtenstein REED Research Award, which supports students specifically during their final thesis phase. Since 2020, over 80 young women and men across Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, and Sierra Leone have received the scholarships to support their graduate studies.
The Liechtenstein Institute for Strategic Development (LISD), based in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, and led by Director Professor Peter Droege, is dedicated to the integration and proliferation of renewable energy in infrastructure, urban, and regional development internationally, pursuing what it calls “Rapid Regenerative Infrastructure Deployment” by integrating science, engineering, economics, and finance with city, regional, and infrastructure planning.
