The Southern Cross University Student Opportunities Fund provides current SCU undergraduate students with the opportunity to apply for a scholarship worth up to $7,500 to help subsidise the cost of travel, accommodation, and necessary activities to help them realise their full professional potential. This could be a new invention, a business idea, or the opportunity to undertake a placement at a leading company in a major capital city. The scholarship is designed for students who have already worked their opportunity into a concrete proposal and are ready to take it to the world, with the panel taking into account costs already incurred by applicants who have had to purchase tickets or accommodation in advance of being awarded the scholarship.

Southern Cross University (SCU) is a public university in Australia, with campuses in Lismore, Gold Coast, and Coffs Harbour, and additional training centres across New South Wales. Founded in 1994, SCU is a member of the Regional Universities Network and is committed to widening access to higher education and supporting students from regional and diverse backgrounds. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:

Must be a current Southern Cross University undergraduate student in their 2nd year of study or beyond (not available to first year undergraduate students)
Must not have previously received funding under this scholarship
Must have progressed their opportunity to such a point that its occurrence is almost certain at the time of application
The funded project must be completed at least two months before the applicant’s graduation
Must demonstrate capacity to make a valuable contribution or impact to the University and the community
Must agree to submit graded progress reports and work with the SCU marketing team to create an impact story about the project, and grant SCU permission to use the story for promotional purposes
International travel will usually not be considered, unless there is a very clear and considerable opportunity for the project to have global impact, in which case the opportunity will be assessed on its merits and alignment with the selection criteria
Not available for job interviews, unless there is clear commencement post-graduation from the applicant’s current course and the applicant can demonstrate they are in the final round of interviews and that receiving this scholarship would substantially improve their chances of success
