Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility requirements vary by individual scholarship. The general conditions across the scholarships are:
- Must be applying to or enrolled in an eligible online, part-time postgraduate programme at the University of Edinburgh
- For the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships: must be from a low or middle-income country eligible under the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission criteria
- For the Edinburgh Surgery Online Global Scholarships and Patient Safety Scholarships: must be a national and resident of an eligible country for the entirety of studies
- For the Edinburgh Surgery Online Patient Safety Scholarships (full tuition fee coverage): must be a national and resident of Africa, South Asia, the Caribbean Islands, Pacific Islands, or Central and South America
- For the Polish School of Medicine Memorial Fund Scholarships, the Boloz-Kulesza Trust Fund Scholarship, and the Prof Dr T and Dr A Sokolowska Scholarship: must be a Polish medical doctor or scientist
- For the ASiT – Edinburgh Surgery Online Bursary: must be an ASiT member undertaking the MSc in Surgical Sciences or MSc in Patient Safety and Clinical Human Factors
- For the Garden Scholarship: must be a PgCert in Surgical Writing and Evidence Based Practice applicant or a student enrolled in the PgProfDev Surgical Writing and Evidence Based Practice programme
- For the Internal Medicine Programme Scholarship: must be a new or continuing student on the MSc Internal Medicine in the 2026–2027 academic year

Selection Criteria
Each scholarship under the University of Edinburgh Online Learning Scholarships has its own selection process. In general, candidates are assessed on academic merit, professional background where applicable (such as for the medical and surgery-related scholarships), national eligibility, programme enrolment status, and financial need where specified. For the surgery and medicine scholarships, professional qualifications and experience as a medical doctor or scientist are key criteria. For the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships, priority is given to candidates from low and middle-income Commonwealth countries. For Edinburgh Surgery Online scholarships, residency and nationality in an eligible country are prerequisite requirements throughout the study period.
