The Maldives National University (MNU) Student Scholarship Programme aligns with the university’s strategic goal of student empowerment and success, and is designed to recognise high academic achievements while supporting enthusiastic and dedicated students throughout their academic journey. All student scholarships are funded entirely by the Maldives National University. The scholarships are categorised into four main types: Undergraduate and Postgraduate Full Scholarships, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Tuition Fee Scholarships, Shaheed Awards, and Special Scholarships.
The Maldives National University (MNU), established in 2011 and headquartered in Malé, is the premier national university of the Republic of Maldives. It serves as the country’s largest and most comprehensive higher education institution, offering programmes across a wide range of disciplines including health sciences, engineering, education, law, arts, fisheries and ocean sciences, hospitality and tourism, business, and medicine. MNU operates across multiple campuses Malé, Gan, Hithadhoo, Kulhudhuffushi, and Thinadhoo bringing higher education opportunities to students across the islands. Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a Maldivian citizen
- Must be enrolled full-time at the Maldives National University
- Must not be the recipient of another sponsored scholarship or be in the Free Degree Scheme

Selection Criteria
Candidates are assessed based on academic achievement and dedication to their studies. The scholarships are designed to recognise high-performing students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. For the Full Scholarship, newly enrolled students in undergraduate programmes (including Advanced Diploma and Diploma) and postgraduate programmes are considered. Shaheed Awards are bestowed in honour of the 3rd November martyrs and follow the criteria set out in the University Scholarship Scheme. Special Scholarships are directed at students in identified national needs areas. All scholarship applications and selections are governed by the MNU Student Scholarship Scheme and the Special Scholarship Scheme documents.
