The Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship is a prestigious, fully funded scholarship jointly funded by the Australian Commonwealth Government and the University of Melbourne to support exceptional domestic and international students undertaking graduate research degrees. Available for both master’s by research and doctoral (PhD) programs, the scholarship is awarded based on academic excellence and demonstrated research potential. This programme will provide 100% fee remission and up to $138,000 to its recipients:

  • Full Tuition fee coverage
  • Living allowance of $39,500 per year
  • The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.
  • Relocation grant of $2,000 to $3,000.
  • Comprehensive health insurance

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Research Training Program Scholarship, you must have applied for and met the entry requirements for a graduate research degree or be enrolled in a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne.

  • The Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset) is offered to all domestic students.
  • The Research Training Program Scholarship (Stipend and Fee Offset) is offered to domestic and international students ranked highest by relevant selection panels based on their academic results for prior study and their research potential in their field of study.
  • Factors such as completion of a degree at the same level of the research course for which the scholarship is sought, relevant professional experience, refereed publications, specialist medical qualifications or composition of original music may be taken into consideration.
