The Soochow University International Student Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship programme offered by Soochow University one of China’s Double First-Class institutions and one of the country’s earliest Western-style universities, founded in 1900 for outstanding international students pursuing Master’s and Doctoral degree programmes. The scholarship operates under two routes: the Chinese Government High-Level Graduate Students Scholarship (CSC Type B), which is funded by the Chinese Government Scholarship Council, and the Soochow University International Student Scholarship, which is a university-funded award automatically considered for applicants who meet CSC requirements but are not ultimately approved at the national level. Both routes cover tuition fees, accommodation, monthly living stipend, and comprehensive medical insurance.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:

Must be a non-Chinese citizen in good health both mentally and physically, holding a valid ordinary foreign passport
Must be an academically excellent holder of a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, under the age of 35, when applying for a Master’s programme
Must be an academically excellent holder of a Master’s degree or its equivalent, under the age of 40, when applying for a Doctoral programme
Must not be receiving another long-term scholarship from the Chinese Government or a Chinese university
For Chinese-taught programmes: must hold a valid HSK 5 certificate with a score of 180 or above
For English-taught programmes: must meet at least one of the following — TOEFL score ≥80, IELTS ≥6.0, native English speaker, English as medium of instruction for Master’s programme, or other valid evidence of equivalent English proficiency recognised by Soochow University

Selection Criteria

Applications are reviewed by an expert committee at Soochow University. For the CSC Type B route, shortlisted applicants are nominated by the university to the China Scholarship Council for national-level review, with final scholarship results expected in late May 2026. Applicants who meet CSC standards but are not ultimately approved at the national level are automatically considered for the Soochow University International Student Scholarship without a separate application. Doctoral applicants are strongly advised to secure a supervisor acceptance letter, as it significantly strengthens the application. All uploaded documents must be clear, authentic, and valid; any form of forgery will result in expulsion and no reimbursement of paid expenses.
