The Massey University Business Excellence Scholarship supports students enrolling in a Massey Business School undergraduate degree by providing tuition fee assistance of up to $6,000, awarded to up to 20 recipients per cycle. The scholarship is designed for well-rounded school leavers who have demonstrated proven success in academics and leadership roles, and who are transitioning directly from secondary school into either a Bachelor of Business or a Bachelor of Accountancy at Massey University. Applicants must enrol full-time in their first year, completing a minimum of 105 credits, and the scholarship also offers recipients access to Leadership Development and Community Service Opportunities as part of their experience at Massey Business School.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this programme, applicants must meet the following:

Must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
Must be transitioning to Massey University directly from secondary school (school leavers only)
Must intend to enrol full-time (minimum 105 credits) in the first year of a Bachelor of Business (BBus) or Bachelor of Accountancy (BAcc) at Massey University
Must have attained an NCEA Level 2 Certificate with a merit endorsement or better, or an equivalent qualification for non-NCEA applicants
Must have undertaken leadership roles in a school academic or cultural group, or served as captain of one of the school’s sports teams, or undertaken leadership roles within a community group or organisation

Selection Criteria

Recipients are selected based on their secondary school results — with particular emphasis on results in business, commerce, or enterprise-related subjects — their personal statement outlining their motivation to study business, career aspirations, and leadership experience, and a reference letter speaking to their academic achievements or leadership experience. Consideration is also given to extracurricular and community involvement, and any personal context demonstrating resilience, barriers overcome, or leadership potential.
