The University of Florida Undergraduate Scholarships cover a wide range of merit-based and need-based awards available to freshmen, currently enrolled students, international applicants, graduate students, and military students. No separate application is required for the primary merit-based scholarships, as all admitted freshman students who apply by the priority deadline and receive their decision on February Decision Day are automatically considered. The review process uses the same holistic approach as the admissions decision, incorporating grades, standardised test scores, extracurricular involvement, leadership, community service, and personal essays. Approximately 10% of admitted freshmen receive a merit scholarship each year.
The University of Florida (UF), founded in 1853 and located in Gainesville, Florida, is one of the United States’ largest and most prestigious public research universities and a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU). UF consistently ranks among the top public universities in the nation and is classified as a Tier 1 research institution. The university serves over 60,000 students across more than 100 undergraduate majors and 200 graduate programmes spanning 16 academic colleges, covering disciplines from medicine, law, and engineering to the arts, agriculture, and business. UF’s Division of Enrollment Management and its Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships administer an extensive suite of merit-based and need-based financial support programmes, including presidential scholarships, tuition waivers, and nationally recognised honours scholarships, to ensure access to a world-class education for exceptional students from Florida and beyond.

Selection Criteria
All merit-based scholarship decisions at UF use the same holistic review process as admissions decisions. Candidates are assessed on academic achievement (grades and standardised test scores), extracurricular involvement, leadership, community service, and the quality of their personal essay. There are no pre-set minimum criteria; students are ranked relative to the strength of the overall applicant pool for that year. Generally, scholarship recipients are above the middle fifty percent of the admitted student profile. For the John V. Lombardi and Stamps Scholarships, only students admitted to the UF Honors Program through Early Decision and Early Action are invited to apply. For the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars programme, eligibility is assessed following completion of the FAFSA and the MFOS Supplemental Form. UF does not match scholarship offers from other institutions and there is no scholarship appeal process. Approximately 10% of admitted freshmen receive a merit scholarship each year.
