The Science@Leuven Scholarships are offered by the Faculty of Science at KU Leuven in collaboration with its alumni association, Science@Leuven, to motivated and talented international students who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in an international programme at the Faculty of Science. The scholarships are highly competitive, as the number of awards per academic year is limited and the exact number depends on available funds as determined by the Science@Leuven Fund Board. Only students with excellent academic results — comparable to at least Distinction at KU Leuven in their previous studies will be considered. Most Master’s programmes at the Faculty of Science are two-year programmes; the scholarship for the second Master’s year will only be continued on the condition that the student achieved outstanding results in the first Master’s year. Applicants must first apply for the Master’s programme of their choice through the KU Leuven application portal, and then register their scholarship application on the scholarship website, uploading a screenshot confirming successful submission of the admissions application.

Selection Criteria

The Science@Leuven Scholarships are highly competitive. The Science@Leuven Fund Board reviews and selects recipients based on academic excellence — only candidates with results equivalent to at least Distinction at KU Leuven in their previous studies will be considered. The strength of the motivation letter, the quality of the two reference letters from internationally renowned professors, and the applicant’s willingness and demonstrated capacity to serve as an ambassador for their programme are also key factors. The exact scholarship amount awarded is determined by the Fund Board and may vary from year to year depending on available funds. Continuation of the scholarship in the second year of the Master’s programme is conditional upon the student achieving outstanding academic results in the first year.
